Game of Thrones star thanked by Bristol Animal Rescue Centre for ‘incredibly generous’ £50,000 donation

The charity says that Maisie Williams’ donation will make a huge difference in securing its future.

Bristol Animal Rescue Centre staff have been so overwhelmed by a donation from Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams they have filmed a special video of thanks.

The 23-year-old actress, who was born in the city before moving to Clutton in Somerset, gifted the charity £50,000 to help with its urgent appeal during the pandemic.

The video, which has been posted on Twitter, features several employees sending messages like: “This means everything to us – you are amazing!”

The video was picked up by Maisie, who acknowledged it with a short reply on the social media platform.

Maisie Williams is no stranger to the charity – she adopted her rescue pooch ‘Sonny’ from there in 2016 and has continued to support Bristol A.R.C. in various ways ever since.

“Bristol A.R.C. changes the lives of animals everyday and Sonny, my dog who I adopted from them a few years ago, has changed my life in many ways for the better. It’s so important in these difficult times not to forget about charities like Bristol A.R.C. that need our help. So please make a donation to their appeal if you can. We all need to stick together in these dark times and keep the world spinning regardless”MAISIE WILLIAMS

Just like many other charities, Bristol A.R.C. has been hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic and estimates it will lose more than £250,000 of its income over the coming months.

The charity, which opened in 1887, was forced to close its doors to the public as coronavirus swept across the country, suspending all animal adoptions for the foreseeable future, and postponing upcoming fundraising activities.

But the centre continues to care for many dogs, cats and other animals, as well as taking in stray animals and injured wildlife. It expects to see an increased demand for help as the current lockdown continues.

The charity says that Maisie’s donation will make a huge difference in securing its future, and saving hundreds of animals lives.

“To know that Maisie respects and loves what we do so much means the world to us. I couldn’t believe it when I heard what she had done to support us, I had to hold back a few tears! It really will make the world of difference to us right now and we can’t thank her enough for her generosity” JODIE HAYWARD, BRISTOL A.R.C.’S ANIMAL HOME MANAGER
